Times Table Island ("the app") is a times-table game for children aged 5 to 9, published by Melek Ceylan under the Bonendo name ("we"). We built it so that it learns nothing about your child. This policy explains what happens to information when your child plays.
The short version
- There are no accounts, no ages, no photos and no sign-in. A grown-up may give each child a nickname and pick a picture from the game's own characters; both are optional and stay on your devices.
- Your child's progress is saved on the device and backed up to your own iCloud, which we can never see. You can turn the backup off.
- Spoken answers are understood on the device and are never recorded or sent anywhere.
- We use no analytics and no crash reporting that identifies anyone, and we never track your child.
- The free version shows occasional contextual, child-safe ads from Kidoz. Buying the Full Game turns them off completely.
Information kept on your devices and in your iCloud
The app saves your child's progress on the device: which times-table facts they have practised and how well, the rounds they have finished, their stars and collection, and the settings in the grown-ups area. Up to four children can play on one device, each with their own progress. In the grown-ups area you can give each child a nickname (a first name or a made-up one, up to 12 letters) and a picture chosen from the game's characters and animals, so they can find themselves. Both are optional; the picture is never a photo. None of this is ever sent to us or to anyone else.
Unless you turn it off, the app also backs this progress up to the iCloud account the device is signed in to, using Apple's iCloud key-value storage. That way it moves to a new iPhone or iPad and is not lost if the app is deleted. The backup lives in your own iCloud, protected by your Apple Account: we cannot see it, and apart from any nicknames you chose, it contains no personal information. Turn it off with Back up to iCloud in the grown-ups area, which also removes the copy in iCloud. You can delete everything at any time with Reset progress, which clears the backup too.
Voice answers
Children can say an answer instead of tapping it. With your permission, the app uses the microphone and Apple's speech recognition on the device only. Nothing your child says is recorded, saved or sent anywhere, and the app never falls back to recognising speech on a server. If the device can't recognise speech on its own, the microphone button is hidden. You can turn voice answers off in the grown-ups area, or turn off the microphone in the iPhone or iPad Settings.
Narrator voices
The English narrator is part of the app. The narrator in Turkish, Spanish, German, French and Russian is downloaded from our website, bonendo.com, once, when a grown-up asks for it in the grown-ups area. When the game plays in one of those languages, the app also checks our website for the list of voices, so it can offer the download. These requests send nothing about your child or the device: no identifier, no cookies, and no progress. Like any website, our server sees the device's internet address to answer the request; we do not use it to identify anyone. A downloaded voice stays on the device, is not included in device backups, and can be removed in the grown-ups area.
Purchases
The Full Game is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account. The app checks the purchase on the device using Apple's StoreKit. Buttons to buy or restore are only in the grown-ups area, behind a parental gate.
Ads
Unless the Full Game has been bought, the app may show an ad between rounds. Ads are never shown during a question, at launch, or in a child's first rounds, and at most one appears every two rounds. Ads come from Kidoz, a kid-safe ad network certified for COPPA and GDPR-K compliance by PRIVO. Kidoz shows contextual ads only, chosen by the app and the moment rather than by who is playing. It does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA), precise location, or any identifier that follows your child across apps, and it does not track. To deliver and measure ads it handles advertising data, ad interactions (such as whether an ad was shown or tapped), ad diagnostics (such as loading errors), and a shortened IP address that reveals at most the city, none of it linked to your child's identity. Tapping an ad that would leave the app shows a parental gate first. Once the Full Game is bought, the app no longer starts the Kidoz software at all.
Children's privacy
The app is made for children and is listed in the App Store's Kids Category. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and the app is designed so that there is none to collect. Links that leave the app, the grown-ups area and purchases are all behind a parental gate.
Your choices
- Turn voice answers, narration, music and sound effects on or off in the grown-ups area.
- Remove ads with the one-time Full Game purchase.
- Turn the iCloud backup off, which removes the copy in iCloud.
- Delete all progress, on the device and in iCloud, with Reset progress.
- Change or clear a child's nickname and picture, or remove a child and their progress, under Children in the grown-ups area.
Changes
If we change how the app handles information, we will update this page and the date above before the change reaches the App Store.
